Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann has delivered a stark warning to manager Arne Slot, urging him to drop star winger Mohamed Salah from the starting lineup immediately. Hamann believes Slot’s job is on the line if he continues to include the Egyptian international in the squad.

Hamann’s comments were made while he was heavily criticizing Salah’s notable lack of defensive effort during Liverpool’s humiliating 4-1 UEFA Champions League defeat to PSV at Anfield in mid-week.

The former Red was brutally blunt about the difficult decision Slot now faces. “There comes a point when you have got to drop players. Even big players,” Hamann told RTE Sport.

He then posed the ultimate question to the manager: “Slot has a decision to make, does he get the sack with Salah or keep his job without him?”

Hamann specifically pointed to Salah’s contribution to PSV’s second goal as the moment the manager should have acted. “What Salah did for that second PSV goal… I think Slot had one chance to take him off straight away; what he did there was disgraceful.”

The pundit expressed the pain of criticizing a player of Salah’s immense talent and importance to the club. “For a player the calibre of Salah. It pains me to say… but the way he let the player go past him without doing anything to help the team,” Hamann concluded.

Despite his struggles this season, Salah was instrumental in helping Liverpool clinch the Premier League title just last season, highlighting the depth of the current crisis at the club.
