Ganduje Blasts Kano Government Over Arrest Call
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, has dismissed the call for his immediate arrest by the current Kano State Government. He labeled the demand as entirely unfounded and deeply irresponsible.
Ganduje responded publicly in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu. He suggested that the move by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration demonstrates a profound failure to concentrate on the genuine security issues currently plaguing the state.
“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the former Governor asserted.
Ganduje highlighted several communities, including Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, which he claims have faced repeated attacks. He criticized Governor Yusuf for neither visiting nor showing any empathy toward the victims of these incidents.
The statement added that the Governor’s continued absence in moments requiring strong leadership speaks volumes about his disconnect from the people he claims to serve.
Ganduje emphatically insisted that throughout his extensive political career, he has never been associated with violence. He maintained that he has never been linked to any act that undermines the peace and stability of Kano State.
He stressed his belief that the allegation was only politically motivated and designed to distract the public from the pressing security failures of the current administration.
The former Governor urged Governor Yusuf to immediately refocus his attention on his constitutional duty of protecting Kano residents instead of engaging in political theatrics and issuing unfounded allegations against his predecessor.
The controversy was sparked on Friday when the Kano State Government formally called for Ganduje’s immediate arrest over alleged inciting statements and attempts to create an illegal militia group within the state.
