Fuji Star Obesere Robbed in Ondo Attack
Famous Nigerian Fuji musician Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, was violently attacked and robbed in Ondo State on Friday, where he was performing at a burial ceremony. The brazen assault, allegedly perpetrated by a notorious thug named Michael Abbey, also known as “Emir,” resulted in chaos and significant losses for the singer and his crew.
The shocking incident unfolded during the musician’s performance at the Government Field in Okitipupa Local Government Area. The celebratory atmosphere of the burial ceremony was abruptly shattered when the alleged gang of local thugs stormed the venue.
According to witnesses, the assailants unleashed unexpected violence on the musician and his band members while they were on stage, forcing guests and attendees to flee the venue in panic for their safety.
The chaos escalated when Obesere’s manager attempted to shield the musician from the attackers. In the ensuing scuffle, the manager sustained a serious injury after being stabbed with a broken bottle.
In the midst of the violence and confusion, the assailants targeted the musician’s valuables. Obesere was robbed of his mobile phone, a wristwatch, and his gold chain.
Perhaps the most significant loss was the theft of a bag containing a substantial amount of cash, reportedly N4 million. This entire operation highlights the criminal intent behind the disruption.
One eyewitness, identified as Bosede Akinyemi, later recounted the alarming event to journalists, describing it as a “disgraceful act.”
Akinyemi confirmed that a gang of local thugs specifically targeted the musician and his band, attacking them while they were entertaining the guests at the ceremony.
The Ondo State Police Command has since confirmed the incident and reported that its prompt response to the situation has led to an initial breakthrough.
Two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, Michael Abbey a.k.a. “Emir,” and another individual named Oniye Oke, have been apprehended in connection with the attack and robbery.
The police spokesperson disclosed that both suspects have already confessed to their involvement in the criminal operation during interrogation.
A total sum of N479,100 has been recovered from the arrested suspects, representing a portion of the stolen proceeds.
The police command has assured the public that efforts are being intensified to track down the remaining fleeing suspects and to recover the outstanding exhibits linked to the case, including the majority of the stolen cash and valuables.
The Commissioner of Police in the state has reiterated that the command will not tolerate any act of hooliganism, thuggery, or violent conduct, especially as the festive season approaches, assuring the public that all individuals connected to this criminal act will face the full wrath of the law.
