Fubara Clears the Deck: Commissioners Dismissed Following Apex Court’s Judgment

Port Harcourt, Rivers State — In a decisive move underscoring his commitment to the rule of law, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has summarily relieved all commissioners and public officers whose appointments were voided by a recent Supreme Court judgement. The announcement was made during a valedictory session held with his cabinet on Wednesday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, coinciding with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebration.
Dependable NG reports that the action officially dissolves a critical part of the Governor’s cabinet. This step follows the Supreme Court’s ruling on the long-standing political crisis in the state, which recognised the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the legislature. This legal affirmation effectively invalidated all executive appointments, including those of the departing commissioners, that were confirmed by the opposing faction of the State House of Assembly.
A statement confirming the dissolution, issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, noted that the disengagement takes immediate effect. The session served as a platform for Governor Fubara to express his profound appreciation to the departing cabinet members for their dedication and contributions to the development of Rivers State over the past two years, navigating a period marked by unprecedented political challenges.
Beyond the internal state restructuring, Governor Fubara used the Independence Day occasion to extend a strong call for national unity. He urged all Nigerian citizens to actively collaborate with President Bola Tinubu in the collective effort to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation with a brighter future for all.
Concluding his address, the Governor reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Rivers State with renewed vigour and dedication. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the continuous support of the populace, before wishing Nigerians a joyous 65th Independence Anniversary.
