Former President Goodluck Jonathan Addresses 2015 Election Betrayal

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has revisited his experience with betrayal in the nation’s political landscape, a theme he touched on during the 70th birthday celebration of his friend and former Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe. Speaking in Benin, the Edo State capital, Jonathan reflected on the challenges he faced while seeking re-election in 2015.
According to Jonathan, politics in Nigeria is often characterized by disloyalty, making it difficult to find individuals who remain consistent. He remarked, “I have witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election. You will find it difficult to see somebody who says the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening.” Oghiadomhe, who served as Jonathan’s Chief of Staff from 2010 to 2014, was singled out by the former president as one of the few friends he can rely on.
Jonathan’s comments underscore a recurring narrative in Nigerian politics, highlighting the complexities and personal sacrifices involved at the highest level of government. The former leader’s remarks offer a poignant insight into his time in office and the relationships that shaped his presidency.
