FG to ASUU: ‘Every Request Met,’ No Reason for Two-Week Strike

The Federal Government has strongly urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its ongoing industrial action, asserting that it has met every demand put forward by the union.
Dependable NG reports that the declaration was made by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, on Monday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme broadcast by Channels Television. The Minister claimed that the government has engaged ASUU repeatedly since he assumed office and insisted that there is absolutely no justification for the strike.
“We have addressed every single request by ASUU; there is no need for this strike, and we are pleading with them to go back to school,” Alausa stated, dismissing claims that the government has been slow or unwilling to respond to the union’s demands as incorrect.
The Minister’s statement comes one day after ASUU, led by its National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria. Piwuna made the declaration at a press briefing on Sunday at the University of Abuja, stating that there was “nothing sufficient on the ground” to halt the strike.
Piwuna had directed all ASUU branches to withdraw their services effective midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, stressing that the action would be “total and comprehensive.”
