The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday firmly denied a report suggesting a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was actively “pushing” him to contest the presidency in 2027. Wike dismissed the claim as nothing more than “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

Dependable NG reports that a statement released by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, clearly stated that “as far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031.” Olayinka described the perpetrators as “pull Wike down” elements whose tactics lacked maturity, noting it was shameful they could not “reason beyond such kindergarten tactics,” and that they clearly need better brains to think for them.

The statement addressed a falsehood circulated by an online platform, which alleged that a meeting was held by some PDP leaders specifically to encourage the FCT Minister to run for President in 2027. Olayinka insisted that Wike’s character is well-known, as he “does what he says, and says what he does,” and that the Minister has already made his position clear regarding the 2027 Presidential election: he stands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The spokesman clarified that the only meeting that took place on August 20, 2025, was one involving PDP stakeholders from the Southern part of Nigeria. The sole purpose of that gathering was to counter a planned meeting in Lagos the following day by some elements who intended to “rubberstamp a decision to micro-zone party positions zoned to the South.” The outcome of the August 20 meeting, signed by numerous party officials including State Party Chairmen, Senators, and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, was made public via a press statement.

Olayinka acknowledged that the names of the signatories were being twisted to support the latest mischievous report. He reiterated that Wike’s personality is known to all and that the Minister “does not do anything in hiding.” The statement concluded by reaffirming Wike’s loyalty: “He has said it clearly that from now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will stand.” The Minister, Olayinka added, will focus on successfully delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT to ensure the President’s reelection success by actualizing the vision for a global-standard federal capital city in terms of infrastructure.
