FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Dismisses Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Rumors
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not reached out to him regarding any potential plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Dependable NG reports that the Minister made the clarification on Friday during a media parley with journalists in Abuja. He was responding to a question about ongoing media speculation suggesting that Jonathan was under intense pressure to return to the presidential race.
Wike stressed that he relies only on direct communication and dismissed the circulating rumors as unfounded media speculation.
“You’re the one telling me here. Jonathan has never told me; he has never called me one day,” Wike stated. He added that if the former president were genuinely considering a run, he would have contacted him directly.
“Look, I’m being pressured to run, what’s your thinking? If he calls me and asks me, I will be able to tell him my mind and what I feel,” Wike affirmed. He further insisted that he would not accept any report as correct simply because it appeared on the pages of newspapers, referencing a previous instance where rumors about him were proven false.
The Minister’s comments come amid heightened political activities and speculation surrounding key figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
