Farah Dagogo Hails Late Enweluzo as Legal Doyen

A somber atmosphere enveloped the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt on Friday as a valedictory court session was held in honor of the late legal icon, Sir Cosmas Enweluzo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Among the many dignitaries who gathered to pay their last respects was former federal lawmaker, Dr. Farah Dagogo, who eulogized the deceased as a doyen of the legal profession whose wealth of experience and invaluable counsel would be deeply missed. The tribute from Dagogo was particularly poignant, as it highlighted how the late SAN had been instrumental in securing his freedom in a high-profile case filed by the Rivers State Government.
Sir Cosmas Enweluzo, who passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 59, was a legal colossus whose career spanned over 25 years. Elevated to the prestigious rank of SAN in 2018, he was a highly respected figure known for his exceptional skills in litigation and advocacy. His law firm, Liberty Chambers, specialized in complex legal issues ranging from corporate law to oil and gas, and he was known for his ability to provide swift and satisfactory solutions to even the most intricate legal challenges. A devout Christian and a member of the Knights of St. Mulumba, Sir Enweluzo was also remembered by Dagogo as a remarkable family man and a role model to his five children.
In his emotional tribute, Dr. Dagogo recalled his personal and professional relationship with the late lawyer, particularly their collaboration during a difficult period in his life. The former lawmaker recounted how Enweluzo led his legal team to a successful defense against criminal charges filed by the Rivers State Government in the lead-up to the 2023 elections. According to Dependable NG, Dr. Dagogo was arrested after being accused of sponsoring thugs and cultists to disrupt a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) screening exercise in Port Harcourt. Dagogo had maintained that the charges were politically motivated, designed to prevent him from contesting for the governorship on the PDP platform. After a lengthy legal battle, the court ruled in Dagogo’s favor, discharging and acquitting him of all charges due to a “lack of diligent prosecution” by the state, a legal victory that freed him from a significant legal burden. Dagogo expressed that Enweluzo’s leadership during this trial was invaluable and his personal engagement with the legal team had broadened his perspective and deepened his interest in the legal profession.
The passing of Sir Enweluzo has created a significant void in the legal community. He was a respected member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, and his contributions to the legal profession were both extensive and profound. In his lifetime, he delivered numerous papers and articles on various aspects of legal practice and served as a member and chairman of several professional and disciplinary bodies. His commitment to justice and the rule of law earned him the admiration of his peers and clients alike. For Dr. Dagogo, the death of his lead counsel and mentor is a deeply personal loss. While commiserating with the widow, Mrs. Theresa Enweluzo, and their children, Dagogo urged them to find strength in the late SAN’s legacy of dedication to justice and principled service.
