Edo Police Rescue Teenage Girls in Failed Trafficking Attempt

Police in Edo State have successfully rescued two teenage girls, aged 13 and 14, who were victims of a failed human trafficking attempt. The girls, one of whom lives with sickle cell disease, were being trafficked to Libya but were intercepted after their sponsor learned his mother, Comfort Etim, had been arrested.The girls had traveled as far as Zaria, Kaduna State, before their trafficker instructed them to return. According to the minors, they were lured with promises of domestic work for an elderly couple in Italy. They said their sponsor explicitly told them not to inform their parents about the planRescue and Investigation
The victims recounted how they were put on a bus at Aduwawa Motor Park in Benin City and told to contact an individual in Kano upon arrival. One of the girls, identified as Success, expressed her relief at being rescued and returned home. Her companion, who manages sickle cell disease, said she was initially excited, thinking the opportunity would allow her to surprise her mother with a trip abroad.The Director-General of the Edo State Migration Agency, Lucky Agazumah, confirmed the rescue and stated that the transport company involved would face sanctions for conveying unaccompanied minors. He added that several accomplices in the trafficking network have been arrested and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
