The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully apprehended two of its former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who were allegedly impersonating the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Dependable NG reports that the DSS confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The two individuals had previously been declared wanted in separate public warnings issued by the secret police concerning their fraudulent activities.

“The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” the DSS stated. The arrests follow a series of alerts warning citizens against dealing with the former officers who were dismissed for misconduct but continued to parade themselves as active operatives.

The DSS recalled that it had previously raised the alarm specifically over the activities of Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who was accused of using the Service’s name to defraud the public. Similarly, a separate statement was issued on October 8 regarding Barry Donald, who was also alleged to be impersonating the agency for fraudulent purposes.

The DSS reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians from such impostors and maintaining public trust. To combat similar schemes, the Service revealed plans to publish the names of other previously dismissed personnel. The public was urged to verify all official engagements through the DSS’s verified communication channels and to report any suspicious activities involving persons claiming to represent the Service.
