KANO, Kano State — A wave of panic has swept through the Tudun Yola area of Gwale Local Government Area following a horrific attack by unknown assailants who murdered two women and subsequently set their home ablaze. The victims, identified as Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, were the two wives of Alhaji Ashiru Shu’aibu Usaini, leaving the community reeling from the shock of the calculated and brutal crime.

Details emerging from the tragic scene suggest a premeditated attack that occurred around midday while the family’s patriarch and his children were away from home at work. According to accounts given by local authorities and family members, the assailants executed the crime with chilling precision. They reportedly stabbed one of the wives before igniting the house to cover their tracks. The second victim was subsequently found dead in a locked room, confirming a double homicide rather than an accidental fire.

Anas Shu’aibu, a stepson to the victims, provided a harrowing recount of the discovery to journalists. He explained that the family was completely unaware of the incident until his father called him much later in the evening, urging him to rush home. Upon their return, the full extent of the tragedy became clear. Shu’aibu described the devastating scene: “We found one of the bodies completely burnt, while the other was locked in the bathroom. When we forced the door open, she was already dead.” He further clarified that while the family’s initial, desperate hope was that the fire was accidental, the circumstances surrounding the deaths confirmed the incident as a deliberate and vicious double murder. The fact that the attackers first reportedly used a weapon—stabbing one of the women—before resorting to arson underscores the severity and premeditation of the violence inflicted.

The bereaved husband, Alhaji Ashiru, whose life was shattered by the loss of both his wives, expressed his profound grief and confusion, pleading with security agencies to expedite the investigation. His statement conveyed the deep sorrow and the unanswerable question that now grips his family and the community: “They killed my wives and set one of them on fire. I still don’t know why anyone would carry out such a wicked act.” The suddenness and extreme violence of the crime have introduced an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in Tudun Yola, a previously quiet residential area. Residents are demanding rapid action from law enforcement, fearful that the assailants remain at large.
