Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has issued a serious warning to the incoming Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that Nigeria risks “heading for hell” if the 2027 presidential election is rigged and an imposed leader takes power.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, the PDP chieftain stressed that the new INEC chairman must approach the job “with a conscience.” He insisted that the commission must allow the will of the people to prevail, emphasizing that anything short of a credible electoral process would lead to national turmoil.

George’s warning came while he was commenting on the persistent speculations regarding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential bid for the 2027 presidency. Addressing the issue, the elder statesman confirmed that the PDP has taken a firm decision on its zoning arrangement.

He stated, “I said the party has decided, the last meeting we had, that affirmatively, the next presidential candidate of the party must come from the South. Where is Jonathan from? Is he not from the South?”

While acknowledging that the party’s zoning decision opens the door for Jonathan, George was quick to clarify that the ticket would not be handed to anyone outright. He maintained that “anybody else from the South” is not barred from competing, and that the ultimate decision on the party’s flag bearer will be made by Nigerians during the PDP’s National Convention through a competitive process.
