Actress Mercy Johnson Questions Justice System Over Alleged Arrest of Regina Daniels’ Brother

Famous Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has publicly reacted to the alleged arrest and detention of her colleague Regina Daniels’ elder brother, Sammy West, reportedly on the orders of Senator Ned Nwoko.

Dependable NG reports that Sammy West was allegedly arrested in Lagos on Sunday for his purported involvement in the senator’s ongoing messy marital crisis with Regina Daniels, who is Mercy Johnson’s goddaughter. The arrest occurred just a week after Regina Daniels publicly accused her husband, Senator Nwoko, of domestic violence and filed for divorce. The Lagos State Police Command, however, later clarified that the officers who carried out the arrest were from Abuja with a duly signed warrant and that Sammy West was only briefly held in Lagos before being transferred.

Reacting strongly to the dramatic development on her Instagram handle, Mercy Johnson questioned the integrity of Nigeria’s justice system regarding the handling of the arrest. She wrote, “The worse form of injustice is pretended justice. A child was arrested, no one can or has been allowed to see him for 2 days, he was flown from Lagos to Abuja and is allegedly being taken to court from the airport. How did we get here? Nigeria… Wow”.

The arrest adds a new layer of complication to the high-profile marital conflict, which has seen accusations of physical assault from the actress and counter-allegations of substance abuse from the Senator. Another of Regina’s brothers, Sweezzy, also alleged that Sammy West was denied access to a lawyer and was immediately taken to court from the airport on a direct charge, furthering the family’s claim of an abuse of power.
