Adebayo Adedamola Wins Osun PDP Governorship Primary

Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, commonly known as FRYO, has secured the nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026.

Dependable NG reports that the primary election took place in Osogbo on Tuesday amidst a significant security presence. Humphrey Abba, the chairman of the primary election committee, announced the results, confirming that Adebayo received 919 votes out of a total of 957 accredited ballots, guaranteeing him a decisive victory in the contest.

Abba explained that there were 20 void votes recorded following the withdrawal of one of the aspirants, widely believed to be the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke. He added, “The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and he stands elected and returned.”

Despite Governor Adeleke’s previous announcement of his formal resignation from the party, his name still appeared on the ballot paper used for the PDP governorship primary. Party officials present confirmed that the exercise was carried out strictly according to established guidelines, with all accredited delegates participating in the voting process.

Governor Adeleke had formalized his resignation in a letter dated November 4, 2025, which he addressed to the PDP leadership in his local ward. The party’s state chairman, Sunday Bisi, had previously announced on Monday that the primary slated for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, would be postponed due to an ongoing leadership crisis at the national level. However, a faction of the party decided to proceed with the exercise as scheduled in Osogbo.
