Fleeing Bandits Kill Four in Kogi

Tragedy struck several Kogi State communities on Thursday morning when alleged armed bandits, reportedly fleeing military operations in neighboring Kwara State, launched a deadly attack that left four men dead.

The distressing incident was documented in a post shared on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X account, detailing the coordinated attack.

Makama reported that the attackers, traveling on motorcycles, entered Kogi State through remote bush paths originating from Patigi in Kwara State. They subsequently moved through the Bunu and Kiri communities, firing indiscriminately at residents.

The four victims killed during the violent incursion were identified as thirty-four-year-old Dare Olorunfemi from Ihale community, John (whose surname is unknown), thirty-three, from the Taki area, Abdul Siworo, thirty-three, of the Ike area, and twenty-five-year-old Oladele Samuel from Ayetoro-Kiri community.

Eyewitnesses informed Makama that the bandits continued their flight path, moving toward the heavily forested Kakanda/Ankumi area near Obajana in Lokoja Local Government Area, leaving residents terrified and displaced.

Intelligence sources now suggest that the attackers have taken refuge around the Masalacin Boka area.

In response to the killings and the ongoing threat, security forces in the region have swiftly intensified their efforts. They are working to safeguard the affected communities and to prevent any further attacks by the dispersed criminal elements.
