Plateau APC Women Reject Gov. Mutfwang

The women’s wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State staged a massive rally on Tuesday to vehemently reject what they claim are plans for Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join their ranks. The demonstration was held at the Secretariat Junction Bridge in Jos.

The rally served a dual purpose, as the APC women also used the occasion to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term. They credited the President with significantly advancing the state’s interests by granting prominent Plateau indigenes key appointments in his administration.

Elizabeth Samson Yerse, the Convener of the rally and leader of the state’s APC women, addressed the gathering, stating that they would actively resist any attempt by certain politicians to impose Governor Mutfwang on the party. She issued a stern warning to those engineering the defection moves to desist immediately.

Clad in the party’s colors and chanting solidarity songs, the women carried various protest placards with inscriptions such as “Vindictive Mutfwang, No Room in APC” and “We don’t want Pharaoh Mutfwang.” Yerse declared that the APC women would “shed their blood” to emphasize their deep disapproval of Mutfwang joining the party.

Yerse, who also serves as the state coordinator of the ‘Tinubu Torch Bearers,’ leveled accusations of anti-party activity against those within the APC allegedly working to pave the way for Mutfwang’s defection from the PDP.

She insisted their core message was simple and definitive: “if a woman says no, you respect her choice not force yourself on her.”

Likening the APC to “a woman with dignity, values, and principles,” Yerse argued that no amount of external pressure or manipulation would force them to accept someone they believe has consistently worked to undermine their party and its loyal members.

She recalled past statements made by the Governor that suggest he holds a negative view of the APC. “It has been on record that the governor said he will never join the APC, he even went ahead and called the party an evil political party,” she asserted.

The women leader then made her faction’s position explicitly clear: “Let it be clearly understood, we in the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially the women wing, do not want Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join our party.”

She stressed that the APC is not intended to be a “political haven for leaders who have failed to stabilize their own party” or “a dumping ground for politicians running from the crises they created.”

Yerse further detailed the reasons for their rejection, maintaining that Mutfwang’s style of leadership is fundamentally incompatible with the disciplined and forward-looking direction of the APC.

She specifically cited the alleged disengagement of Plateau youths who were previously employed by the former Governor, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, as an unacceptable action.

The women’s wing officially stated they reject him because they do not want to introduce “division, indiscipline, or sabotage” to the party’s efforts, led by National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yiltwada.

Yerse concluded by asserting that the APC remains a party of structure, strategy, and national integration, insisting that anyone operating on conflict and division has no place within their ranks. The message from the Plateau APC women was definitive: they have spoken loudly, and their “NO” must be respected.
