Taraba Governor Urges Corps Members to Embrace Patriotic Service

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has issued a strong call for patriotism and committed service to the members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state for their mandatory national service year. The Governor delivered his appeal during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch C Stream I orientation course, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Sibre, Ardo-Kola Local Government Council.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, Governor Kefas began by applauding the NYSC scheme for its enduring and vital role in promoting national unity and instilling discipline among Nigerian youth for over five decades.

He urged the new corps members to fully immerse themselves and participate actively in all scheduled camp activities, emphasizing that such rigorous engagement is key to preparing them for the myriad challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead during their service year. The Governor underscored the state’s reliance on the scheme’s talent pool, stating: “We consider Youth Corps members and the NYSC scheme as crucial development partners, endowed with the energy, training, talent, and skills needed to galvanize the state and the nation toward a better society.”

Governor Kefas further explained that the orientation course is strategically designed to equip participants with both the physical and mental readiness necessary for effective service delivery across the state. In line with modern economic realities, he strongly encouraged the corps members to take maximum advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to enhance their employability, foster self-reliance, and contribute to the local economy beyond their primary assignments.

Earlier in the ceremony, the Taraba State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Ella Aji Williams, extended his profound gratitude to Governor Kefas for what he described as unprecedented and unwavering support for the scheme within the state. Williams noted that the administration’s consistent interventions and cooperation have played a significant role in enabling the NYSC to effectively fulfill its national mandate in Taraba State. “As we gather to formally induct you into the National Youth Service Corps, it is my honour to express our profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering support to the NYSC family,” he affirmed.
