Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has given a candid reaction to his first-ever Grammy Award nomination, stating that while he is excited by the recognition, he personally holds little value for awards. The singer’s focus, he revealed, is squarely on seeing his collaborator, Davido, secure the prestigious honor.

Dependable NG reports that Omah Lay earned his maiden nomination at the 68th annual Grammy Awards for his collaborative hit track, ‘With You’, featuring Davido. The song was nominated in the fiercely competitive Best African Music Performance category, a recognition that solidifies Omah Lay’s growing presence on the global music stage. The nomination list, released recently, placed the Nigerian singer among the leading continental contenders for the February 1, 2026, ceremony scheduled to hold at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

He went on to express strong support for Davido, describing the DMW boss as his closest and most loyal friend in recent times. “Yeah but I really want it for OBO! he is the realest friend I’ve had in while, he stood by during my hardest times,” Omah Lay added, highlighting the personal connection and history between the two artists that transcends the professional achievement. The sentiment underscores a theme of loyalty within the Afrobeats community.

Davido, who is a global Afrobeats titan, has yet to secure a Grammy win despite previously receiving four nominations across various categories, including being consistently nominated in the Best African Music Performance category since its introduction in 2023. This joint nomination for ‘With You’ marks a key moment for both stars, as they face stiff competition from other Nigerian and African acts. The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is slated for a global broadcast on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.
