Edo Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Alleged Abduction and Killing of 12-Year-Old Boy
The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the tragic alleged abduction and killing of a 12-year-old boy, identified as Emiliano Egwunbare, in the Obagie community of Egor Local Government Area in the state. The command provided detailed information regarding the arrests and the current status of the case to counter misinformation circulating online.
Dependable NG reports that the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed the arrests in an official statement issued in Benin City. Ikoedem listed the apprehended suspects as Tega Emajuwa, 18; Edugie Destiny, 20; and Osayande Vincent, 23. The police spokesperson alleged that the suspects have already made confessional statements linking them directly to the heinous crime. They were successfully arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit in Benin following sustained tactical and technical intelligence gathering.
The tragic incident, according to the police, occurred on September 16, 2025, when the young boy was allegedly kidnapped by the suspected abductors while within the community. The case was initially reported at the Ogida Police Division before being transferred to the specialized Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit for comprehensive and discreet investigation. “Sadly, during the course of investigation, the victim’s body was later discovered inside a well in the Obagie Community. The remains were evacuated and deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy,” ASP Ikoedem stated.
The command also used the statement to dismiss a viral video circulating on social media in which the deceased boy’s mother alleged that the suspects involved in her son’s case had been released from custody. The Command categorically stated that this claim is false, misleading, and unfounded. It reassured the public that the suspects remained in lawful custody until they were formally charged to court for prosecution on October 16, 2025, and have since been remanded. The police confirmed that the mother of the deceased was present in court during the proceedings, reinforcing the integrity of the judicial process in handling this grievous crime.
