Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has vehemently denied recent reports claiming that he accused the current Vice President, Kashim Shettima, of being responsible for the creation of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Dependable NG reports that Sheriff issued a strong statement on Saturday titled “A Lie Taken Too Far: Shettima, Ali Modu Sheriff Are Not on War Path,” in which he described the circulating report as completely false, malicious, and an attempt to cause disunity between the two leaders and within the nation’s political landscape.

Sheriff noted that his attention was drawn to the widely shared headline, “It’s Not Me, It’s Shettima Who Created Boko Haram — Sheriff Reveals,” which he categorically denounced as a fabrication. He firmly denied ever making such a statement, granting any interview, or engaging with journalists on the highly sensitive matter.

The former Governor stated that the report was not only mischievous but also a dangerous piece of fake news deliberately aimed at maligning him and undermining his substantial contributions to peace and national development. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s security and stability and expressed deep regret that “unscrupulous individuals and platforms would resort to peddling falsehoods for cheap political gain.” Sheriff urged the public and the media to disregard the story entirely and warned that his legal team has been instructed to identify and take immediate action against those behind the defamatory publication, vowing to seek full legal redress if the story is not promptly retracted.
