Human Rights Lawyer Falana: Trump ‘Lied to the World’ About Christian Genocide in Nigeria
Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana has fiercely criticized United States President Donald Trump, asserting that the American leader “lied to the whole world” by alleging Christian genocide in Nigeria without providing any supporting evidence.
Dependable NG reports that Falana made this bold claim on Wednesday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today. His comment comes in the wake of President Trump’s recent declaration of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over the genocide allegations.
President Trump had not only made the designation but also heightened diplomatic tensions by threatening that he had instructed the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Federal Government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
Reacting to the serious diplomatic and security situation, Falana approached the issue from a human rights perspective. He first noted his perception of the American President’s view of African nations, stating, “Mr Trump doesn’t regard us as anything at all; Nigeria and South Africa. For him, we are either a sh*thole country or a disgraceful country.” He then delivered his core criticism of the allegation, firmly declaring, “My position is that Mr Trump has lied to the whole world by alleging Christian genocide in Nigeria without any evidence to back it up.” Falana’s statement adds a significant legal and activist voice to the growing domestic rejection of Trump’s claims and threats.
