The family of Wisdom Okorie Akobundu, a native of Ozuitem in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, has publicly called for justice following the tragic death of their son, who they allege was tortured to death during an interrogation by officers at the Bende Police Division.

Dependable NG reports that the call for justice was made by Mr. Festus Okorie when the family received a condolence visit from Chimaobi Anyaso, the Founder of the Chima Anyaso Foundation. The grieving family urged that the tragic death of their son should not be “swept under the carpet,” but should be thoroughly investigated and handled to ensure that no other citizen suffers a similar fate during police custody. Festus Okorie stressed the family’s reputation for integrity and good conduct as he expressed his deep sorrow over Wisdom’s untimely death.

Chimaobi Anyaso, who is also a constituent of the area, expressed his deep concern, stating he was disturbed after reading the news about how a fellow constituent allegedly died in police custody. According to Anyaso, the deceased was initially invited by the police for questioning over undisclosed allegations, but was then allegedly subjected to severe torture that ultimately led to his death at the Bende Police Division. Anyaso, accompanied by Eze Patrick Ude, a traditional ruler in Bende, and other community leaders, described the incident as heartbreaking and emphasized the need for accountability.
