ADC Clarifies Stance on Christian Genocide: ‘Nobody Accusing Govt of Persecution’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified its position regarding the security crisis in Nigeria, asserting that no political entity is accusing the Federal Government of directly persecuting Christians in the country.

Dependable NG reports that Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, made this clarification during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. Abdullahi’s statement was made in the context of the recent declaration of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by US President Donald Trump over allegations of Christian genocide, which was accompanied by a threat of possible military action.

The ADC mouthpiece stated emphatically: “Nobody is accusing this government of persecuting Christians or religious bigotry. They are missing the point.” He argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) tends to perceive any form of criticism as a direct personal attack on their party and has demonstrated what he called “historical incompetence” in handling such issues.

Abdullahi explained that the ADC views the recent designation by the US not as an opportunity for political attack, but as an embarrassment for all Nigerians. He stressed that the party is deeply troubled that outsiders are framing Nigeria’s complex security challenges along religious lines that have the potential to further divide the nation. “Unlike the APC, we are not seeing what’s going on—especially the declaration as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’—as opportunism,” he concluded, distancing his party from the narrative that the government is sponsoring religious violence.
