Naira Rebounds Against Dollar Following Trump’s Military Threat
The Nigerian Naira experienced a rebound against the United States dollar in the official market on Tuesday, a development that occurred directly after US President Donald Trump issued a threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged Christian persecution.
Dependable NG reports that data sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) confirmed that the Naira strengthened to N1,433.66 per dollar on Tuesday. This figure represents an appreciation of N2.68 from the N1,436.34 recorded on the preceding day, effectively marking a gain for the Nigerian currency in the official trading segment.
A similar positive trend was observed in the black market, where the Naira also appreciated. According to reports from multiple Bureau de Change operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, the Naira strengthened to N1,450 per dollar on Tuesday, improving from the N1,460 rate recorded the previous day.
This currency appreciation comes amid an increase in Nigeria’s external reserves, which rose further to $43.259 billion in November 2025, up from the $43.197 billion recorded at the end of the previous month. The rebound reverses the sharp depreciation the Naira had experienced on Monday, when it began the trading week on a negative note against the dollar. The market’s reaction suggests that President Trump’s high-stakes statement may have momentarily triggered an inflow or shift in currency dynamics.
