Adamawa Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Displaying, Offering AK-47 for Lease or Sale in Viral Video
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly displaying a military-grade AK-47 rifle in a viral video and offering the weapon for lease or sale to any interested party, an act that caused widespread panic among residents.
Dependable NG reports that the suspect has been identified as Anas Dauda, a 32-year-old resident of Jalingo B area, Lamorde Ward, in Mubi South Local Government Area. He was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm following the video’s circulation on social media platforms. The statement, released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, on Friday morning, confirmed that the viral video showed the suspect brandishing an AK-47 rifle loaded with three magazines.
Nguroje detailed that Dauda made “very disturbing and threatening comments,” explicitly claiming he would either sell or lease the prohibited firearm for a certain amount of money. The video was promptly brought to the attention of the Command, as it sparked panic and fear across the community.
In a swift response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, immediately deployed operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Mubi South Division to trace, investigate, and apprehend the suspect. Police operatives were successful in tracing and arresting Dauda at a remote location in Mubi town. The Command noted that while the suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing, efforts are being intensified to recover the prohibited firearm seen in the video and determine its source and origin.
