Fresh Traffic Disruption in Lagos as Another Accident Occurs on Otedola Bridge
Barely 24 hours after a severe multiple-truck crash on Kara Bridge caused a major gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, another road accident has been reported on Friday, involving a heavy-duty truck and a commercial bus on the Otedola Bridge. This incident, occurring inward of the Lagos Secretariat, has led to yet another round of traffic congestion on the busy corridor.
Dependable NG reports that the incident was officially confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) through its official X handle. According to the agency, the crash took place when a 14-tyre tipper truck conveying granite collided with an inter-state commercial Mazda bus.
The impact of the collision was significant, forcing the large truck to run into the road barrier and spill its entire contents of granite across the roadway. The incident occurred opposite Capital Oil, just before the main expressway section on Otedola Bridge inward the Secretariat axis. The LASTMA statement detailed the crash, stating: “A 14-tyre tipper conveying granite had a collision with an inter-state commercial Mazda bus. The tipper ran into the barrier and spilled its contents on the road opposite Capital Oil, just before the expressway on Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat.”
LASTMA officials noted that personnel were immediately stationed at the location to manage traffic flow and ensure safety while recovery efforts were commenced. Although the agency initially noted that there was no “significant effect on traffic flow at the moment,” the presence of the crashed vehicles and spilled cargo disrupted the busy thoroughfare. This latest crash follows a tragic multiple-truck collision on Kara Bridge just a day prior, which tragically claimed at least eight lives and caused a massive traffic backlog stretching through Berger and adjoining routes outward Lagos.
