Ikeja: Police Arrest Chinese National in Ikoyi Over CCTV Shop Explosion
The Lagos State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the improvised explosive device (IED) blast that recently rocked a CCTV camera shop on Kodesho Street, Ikeja, with the arrest of a Chinese national. Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, arrested the suspect, identified as Joe Gu, at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, at his upscale residence at No. A11, Bila Vista, Banana Island, Ikoyi.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the arrest followed discreet, ongoing investigations into the explosion after the complainant strongly suspected and named the Chinese businessman as the possible mastermind of the attack. Dependable NG reports that preliminary findings have indicated that the relationship between the suspect and the complainant, who had a prior business history, turned sour back in 2013 following a major disagreement.
Further investigation gathered critical information suggesting a possible motive: during the fallout of their business relationship, the suspect, Joe Gu, allegedly threatened to severely disrupt the complainant’s business operations. The explosion at the CCTV shop has been the subject of intense police scrutiny due to the use of an IED. The Lagos Police Command has officially confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to robustly establish his exact role and possible motive in the incident. The command assured the public that updates on the case would be made public as soon as new information emerges, reaffirming its commitment to uncovering the full truth behind the mysterious explosion.
