Lagos Socialite Pretty Mike and Over 100 Others Arrested in Major NDLEA Nightclub Raid
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully executed a major raid on a popular nightclub in Victoria Island, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, which led to the arrest of over 100 suspects, a significant haul of illicit substances, and the detention of the club’s owner, Lagos socialite Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, widely known as Pretty Mike. The operation, which targeted the Proxy Night club on Akin Adesola Street, was reportedly initiated after the agency received credible intelligence about an ongoing “drug party” at the venue. Dependable NG reports that the NDLEA operatives had been embedded in the party since 11:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, and made their strategic move to disrupt the gathering at 3:00 am on Sunday, following their established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Cartons of various illicit substances, including “Loud” (a potent strain of cannabis) and laughing gas, were recovered from the arrested suspects and from the club’s storage area. The large group of arrested individuals, including the flamboyant club proprietor, were taken into custody for screening and further investigation into their involvement in the alleged drug activities. This high-profile arrest is part of a significantly broader series of successful anti-narcotics operations conducted by the NDLEA nationwide, demonstrating a renewed and aggressive push against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
One of the most notable seizures in the latest NDLEA sweep occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, where operatives uncovered a major consignment of 70 parcels of cocaine. The total weight of this highly valuable Class A drug was recorded at 3.60 kilograms. The cocaine was intricately factory-packed within the walls of cocoa butter formula body cream containers, an attempt at sophisticated concealment, and was destined for London, United Kingdom, on an Air Peace flight. Following the discovery on October 14, 2025, the agency took prompt action, immediately arresting the cargo agent who presented the consignment for airfreight, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle. A detailed, two-week investigation stretched the dragnet further, resulting in the subsequent apprehension of two principal suspects linked to the export attempt: a female healthcare worker, Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, on October 18, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the Chief Executive Officer of a travel agency, at his Ikeja GRA office on Monday, October 20. Adding to the international busts, in Enugu, an attempt by a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine to the Philippines was thwarted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) on Wednesday, October 22. The illicit drug was cleverly concealed within a diabeta herbs coffee tea pack, highlighting the desperate measures traffickers are taking.
Further successes were extensively recorded across different regions of Nigeria, impacting the drug supply chain significantly. In Kwara state, 21,950 capsules of the potent opioid tramadol 250mg, which were outrageously hidden inside a massive 100-litre water heater, were seized from a suspect named Umar Abubakar, 40, who was arrested on Tuesday, October 21, at Bode Saadu, Morro local government area. The seizures continued in Taraba state, where two suspects, Auwal Musa, 26, and Salihu Bala, 22, were apprehended with a staggering 450,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 on Tuesday, October 21. They were attempting to transport the massive consignment from Onitsha, Anambra state, to Mubi, Adamawa State, using the guise of a truck loaded with building materials. Road patrols proved effective in Kogi state on the Okene/Lokoja highway, leading to the seizure of 162.200kg of skunk (a common strain of cannabis) from a truck on Friday, October 24. In Nasarawa state, operatives demonstrated similar diligence by recovering 128kg of the same psychoactive substance from Abubakar Muhammad, 55, in the Keffi area on Wednesday, October 22. The Kaduna state operations were also productive; a total of 234.5kg of skunk was recovered from Bashir Mohammad, 50, and Samini Ahmed Tijjani, 35, at Yan aya, Saminaka in Lere LGA on Friday, October 24, while a separate arrest on the Abuja/Kaduna highway nabbed Isah Usman, 50, and Salvation Okoler, 18, with 8,600 pills of tramadol 225mg and rohypnol.
The aggressive anti-narcotics sweep has also extended its reach into major drug distribution networks and even involved the apprehension of elderly suspects. A mother of two, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, who was identified as a key distributor of highly potent cannabis strains—Canadian and California Loud—in high-end Lagos areas such as Lekki, Ajah, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and VGC, was arrested on Friday, October 17. Operatives successfully recovered 500 grams of the illicit substances at her Lekki residence. The growing problem of new psychoactive substances was addressed in Ikorodu, Lagos, where 275 litres of skuchies, a dangerous substance produced using a mix of black currant drink, cannabis, and opioids, were recovered during a raid at the home of Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe at Solomade Estate on Thursday, October 23. In a distressing turn of events showing the depth of the drug menace, two elderly citizens were also apprehended in Abia State: 75-year-old grandpa Echendu Onuoka was arrested with 4.7kg of skunk at Ovum village, Obingwa LGA, while 60-year-old grandma Aukana John was nabbed with 225 grams of the same substance at Apanta village in the same local government area, both arrests occurring on Wednesday, October 22. Finally, closer to the border, at the Seme area of Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Jacob Ojugbele with 55kg of skunk at Ashipa area of Badagry, and Amusa Oluwabukola was arrested with 121.3 litres of skuchies at Itoga Badagry, both on Wednesday, October 22. In an unrelated but significant security development, a suspect named Abubakar Ibrahim, 30, was arrested by NDLEA operatives along the Gummi-Anka road in Zamfara State on Monday, October 20. He was found to be in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 assorted calibres of ammunition for AK-47 and GPMG rifles, which he was dangerously transporting from Sokoto to Bagega forest, Anka LGA. The suspect and the exhibits have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for a thorough further investigation.
