Brigadier General Gusau categorically stated that the report was “entirely false, malicious, and intended to cause unnecessary tension and distrust among the populace.” He specifically debunked the publication’s insinuation that the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary activities was linked to an “alleged attempted military coup,” and the “spurious references” made to the recent DHQ press release regarding the investigation of sixteen officers.

The DHQ clarified that the decision to cancel the 65th Independence Anniversary parade was made for administrative and strategic reasons. It explained that the cancellation was to allow the President to attend a crucial bilateral meeting outside the country and to ensure the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) could “sustain the momentum in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and banditry.”

Furthermore, the DHQ reassured citizens that the investigation involving the sixteen officers is nothing more than a “routine internal process aimed at ensuring that discipline and professionalism are maintained within the ranks.” The statement confirmed that an investigative panel has been duly constituted and that its findings would be made public upon conclusion.
