The political machinery of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, the heartbeat of the North-West, was galvanised on Thursday as key stakeholders converged in Abuja to pledge unwavering loyalty and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. The high-powered meeting, led by the immediate past APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, signals a unified front determined not only to secure a second term for the President but also to reclaim the governorship seat in Kano State.

Following the strategic closed-door session, the former Kano State Governor, Ganduje, addressed journalists, affirming the stakeholders’ unified commitment and confidence in the Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration.

“We are here, and we examine the progress, the successes that we have achieved in our great party in Kano State. We are also here in order to assure Mr. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that our party in Kano State is solidly behind him,” Ganduje stated. He specifically lauded the President’s economic reform agenda, which has drawn both applause and criticism across the country, emphasising the positive impact these policy shifts have had on the nation and Kano State in particular. “We appreciate his policy reforms. We appreciate the good work that he is doing for the country. We appreciate the good work he is doing for Kano State. And we appreciate all the appointments that he has made for the people of Kano State,” he added.

The support from Kano, which wields a massive voting bloc in the North-West, is crucial to the APC’s national strategy. The state has been a focal point for federal appointments and developmental projects under the current administration. Notable appointments of Kano indigenes to key federal boards and agencies, including those in the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, and the Civil Defence, Immigration, and Prisons Services Board, were highlighted by the APC leaders as tangible evidence of the President’s goodwill towards the state. These appointments are viewed by the local APC chapter as direct dividends of democracy and a clear rebuttal to opposition claims that the North-West has been neglected.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, describing the meeting as a strategic convergence, echoed Ganduje’s sentiments and affirmed the determination of the North-West to deliver a resounding victory for the President in 2027. “We have urged and we have also propelled our people and propelled ourselves that we are going to do more to tell the people of our state and indeed the entire northern states what the President is doing and what he has done for our nation. We are solely behind him, as said by the former National Chairman,” Senator Jibrin asserted, indicating plans for widespread sensitisation and mobilisation campaigns across the region to champion the administration’s achievements.

Further bolstering the collective endorsement, Hon. Abubakar Bichi specifically pointed to the administration’s infrastructure drive. He commended the President’s focus on critical projects such as road infrastructure, which he said had done “extremely well in Kano.” Bichi dismissed any suggestion of political neglect, saying, “So for someone to say Mr. President is not interested in the North or in Kano State is all politics.” The strategic emphasis on infrastructure and security, as noted in previous APC stakeholders’ meetings across the region, forms the bedrock of their message to the vast electorate.

The meeting underscores the political resilience and organisational drive of the Kano APC faction, currently in opposition in the state following the 2023 governorship election. The group’s primary focus is now the consolidation of the party structure, unity among stakeholders, and the meticulous groundwork required to recapture political power in Kano while guaranteeing the North-West remains a strong bastion of support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
