Bauchi Government Uncovers Over 100 Ghost Workers in Health Sector

The Bauchi State government has revealed it has identified over 100 ghost workers within the state’s health sector. This discovery was announced by Mr. Sambo Alkali, the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Hospital Management Board, during a press conference.Alkali stated that the names of those found would be sent to Governor Bala Mohammed for action according to civil service rules. The discovery is part of an ongoing verification exercise aimed at eliminating non-existent employees from the payroll.Additional Healthcare Initiatives
In a move to address the shortage of medical professionals, Alkali also highlighted that the governor has approved the recruitment of over 40 doctors, ranging from consultants to medical officers. These new hires will be deployed to facilities with the most urgent need.Furthermore, the government is working to improve working conditions and attract more health professionals by harmonizing salaries with federal standards. The state health committee has been tasked with designing a new healthcare scheme of service for this purpose. The Commissioner for Health, Mr. Muhammed Dambam, also mentioned the governor’s commitment to tackling child malnutrition through a collaboration with partners to establish a Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) program. Additionally, the state’s Drugs and Medical Consumables Agency has been recapitalized with a N250 million investment, mirroring the amount released in 2024.
