2027 Polls: APC Primed for Enugu Landslide, Says Ex-PDP Chieftain Udeh-Okoye

The political landscape in Enugu State has been dramatically reshaped as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for what a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, has predicted will be a monumental victory in the 2027 general election. The mass defection of PDP stalwarts to the ruling party, including the recent switch by Governor Peter Mbah, has fuelled a strong sense of confidence within the APC camp.
Dependable NG reports that the former National Youth Leader of the PDP, Udeh-Okoye, declared the 2027 presidential election would be “a walkover” for the APC in the state. He insisted that the APC is set to achieve a landslide victory in Enugu, asserting that the outcome would be the same “no matter who is on the ballot,” even against Peter Obi, who ran on the Labour Party platform in 2023.
Udeh-Okoye, who recently crossed to the APC himself, argued that the ruling party has effectively taken over the formidable PDP structure in Enugu. He dismissed the capacity of Peter Obi’s candidacy and the “Obidient movement” to stop the APC, pointing out that Obi’s 2023 victory in the state was only possible because the APC at the time “had no structure.”
“Those who won elections for the party at that time, we were not in APC, now all of us are in APC. Anybody you like in any political party, I assure you, in Enugu State, APC will win,” he stated.
The former PDP chieftain also countered the narrative that Southeasterners are averse to the APC. He noted that the Enugu State Government now has sufficient campaign materials and that Governor Mbah has already delivered on his promises to the people. He suggested that the region’s previous hesitation to embrace the ruling party was primarily due to the alleged disposition of former President Muhammadu Buhari towards the Southeast.
With Governor Mbah’s defection to the APC, the party now controls three of the five states in the Southeast, a significant political shift that places Enugu firmly in the national political mainstream ahead of the next elections.
