A public disagreement has erupted within the Yoruba Nollywood community concerning unfulfilled promises of compensation for their involvement in the 2023 presidential campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Veteran actor, Alhaji Babatunde Bamgbode, popularly known as Baba Fokoko, has publicly countered his colleague, Lalude, over claims that a reward package was promised to them.

Dependable NG reports that a large number of Nollywood celebrities, including prominent names such as Lalude, Alapini, Toyin Abraham, Olaiye Igwe, Seyi Law, Eniola Badmus, and Foluke Daramola, were active participants and key mobilisers in the campaign activities leading up to the 2023 general elections. The controversy was ignited in June 2025 when another colleague, Alapini, openly expressed regret and lamented the lack of reward for their support two years after President Tinubu’s electoral victory.

Following Alapini’s lament, actor Lalude specifically pointed a finger at the former president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, accusing him of failing to fulfill a promise of compensation made to the group for their efforts. However, in a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, actor Fakoko presented a starkly different account, directly challenging Lalude’s assertion. Fakoko firmly stated that MC Oluomo never made a concrete promise to reward any of the actors after the conclusion of the campaign. He clarified that, while MC Oluomo “had it in mind to treat us well,” there was no explicit commitment to give them anything post-campaign. Fakoko detailed that the only provisions were food items distributed on more than two occasions during the campaign period, which the actors took home and were instructed to distribute among themselves, emphatically concluding, “He didn’t promise to give anyone anything.” This internal rift among the Nollywood celebrities underscores the complexities and expectations that often follow high-profile political endorsements, putting the focus on whether their support was a political investment or a purely voluntary act of solidarity.
